MANCHESTER GROVE PARK SQUASH JUNIOR OPEN 2014
SATURDAY 17th - SUNDAY 18th MAY 2014

ESR Bronze Sanctioned Event

The Grove Park Junior Open is a new England Squash & Racketball Bronze Sanctioned competition for Boys and Girls in the following age groups: U19, U17, U15, U13 and U11.

On behalf of the junior tournament organising committee I would like to thank the club members for giving up the courts for the weekend, our sponsors Best Western Hotels and iprosport, and all parents and players who participated in the competition. A special thank you also to all the players and parents who marked the matches which allowed the tournament to run smoothly.
The weekend proved to be a very positive experience of junior squash displaying both the competitive and social sides of the sport. The standard of squash was extremely high, played in true sportsman like manner and, hopefully, the tournament format allowed everyone to benefit and develop their game.
It was great to be mingling with some parents and players enjoying the sunshine over two hours after the last set of matches had finished on court and a very tasty barbecue meal had been eaten. Can't wait to repeat the experience next year!

5. Tournament Format

5.1 Every entrant is guaranteed AT LEAST 3 GAMES dependent on entries received. The Tournament ethos is to maximise the number of matches to be played by each player dependent on entries received and court time available.

5.2 The Tournament will use the MONRAD system as far as possible with the top 8 places playing out a full Monrad if sufficient entries are received for the age group. If entries are limited, a Round Robin system will be used.

5.3 In case of a large entry, each player is guaranteed at least 3 matches up to U17 age group.

6. Tournament shirts, trophies and Prizes

6.1 All entrants (except BU19) will receive a high quality moisture control performance fabric Tournament T-shirt supplied by our tournament partners, iprosports.

6.2 The winner and runner up in each age category (except BU19) will be presented with a commemorative trophy of the Tournament. In addition, iprosports vouchers will also be given to winner and runner up in each age category where sufficient entries are received to warrant prizes. It is anticipated that prizes will be given for all age groups with a minimum entry of 8 players.

6.3 This year we are trying out something different for the BU19. Instead of giving out T-shirts and commemorative trophies, we intend to give cash prizes. Winners of each round will be awarded a portion of the cash prize fund. For example, the winner of an 8 entry draw will receive 3 round winner prizes while round One winners who lose round Two will each receive a prize for winning round One. The prize fund will depend on the number of entries received. We hope this will encourage under 19s to entries this age group for the money if not ranking points!
